                    Life as a Stock Photographer

I gave up my full time job as a teacher in December 2005. I then enrolled on a short college course, looking at how to run a small business and finally in April 2006, I set up my business, Art Splat Designs.
I started off supplying one stock agency, Shutterstock, and over the last 20 months, my client base has grown and grown. I now supply 16 agencies with my images, and have also worked with a range of people producing commissioned design work.

One of the main advantages of being my own boss, and for the work I do, is the travelling. I can just pack up my equipment, and off I go. I have been lucky enough to travel around Southern Ireland, taking photos of the beautiful countryside and coastline, and recently came back from a trip to the USA, where we rented an RV, and visited numerous National Parks. These are definitely the perks of the job!

Basically, I shoot anything and everything.

Someone, somewhere, will need the image for something.

I also produce illustrations. I was given a Wacom Intuos3 Tablet for a Christmas present, and it has totally transformed the way I design!

People say I have quite a cool job…and I tend to agree.

I have managed to turn a hobby into a business, and I love my job!
